Top 3 Reasons Why We Love Donors Choose

If you’re not familiar with Donors Choose I encourage you to take some time and find out more for your self. You can visit their website here  – donorschoose.org

Here’s their brief explanation to get you started.  “Founded in 2000 by a high school teacher in the Bronx, Donors Choose empowers public school teachers from across the country to request much-needed materials and experiences for their students. Right now there are thousands of classroom requests that you can help bring to life with a gift of any amount.”

The Mirani Foundation has worked with Donors Choose to help provide classroom needs and we love the platform! Here are the top 3 reasons why.

  1. Donors Choose lets you look for classrooms in need in your area, or an area you’d like to offer support. You can serach for classrooms and schools by zip code, school system or even specific schools or teachers. This allows donors to help within their own community in an efficient way. The Mirani Foundation has supported projects in Knoxville, Tennessee, our home base of operations. Since there are worthy projects all over the country a donor can find aplace to support that has a connection for them.  We love helping our local schools and recently helped complete the projects for 3 classrooms at Sam E. Hill School.
  2. Or . . . You can search by topic! If you want to support the arts, or sciences or music, Donors Choose lets you look for classroom projects that address those needs.
  3. Donors Choose often has matching funds available from larger donors! This offeres an excellent opportunity to maximise the impact of your donation. It’s also a testament to the success and accountability of the platform that large donors are willing to put their money here. The Mirani Foundation loves working with matching funds to double our impact.

Bonus Reason – This thank you letter from Mrs Q at Sam E. Hill!

Dear Mirani Foundation, My students are LOVING all of the new art materials that you funded for our art center! We have been working hard on naming and forming letters correctly, and the play-doh and alphabet play-doh mats that were part of this project have been used almost daily for our small group time.

My students have also loved working with the hole punchers in various shapes. They love making cards for their parents with the construction paper and punchers, and with every squeeze they are working on their fine motor skills as well. Before I left school today, I put out all of the paints for the students to find when they return tomorrow. My goal is to teach them how to put the paints in the matching cups, gather all of the materials they need, paint a picture, and clean their areas independently. By years end, I hope to have students mixing the colors to make any new colors they may want. My students and I cannot thank you enough for your support. Because of your kindness and generosity, my students are expanding their love for art, gaining independence, strengthening their fine motor skills, learning colors, and naming and forming letters- and that’s just the start. With gratitude,
Mrs. Q.
